Michael Huhn, President of Worldwide Diving Services A Scuba Center In The Desert
Yes! Did you know that one of the world's great aquatic playgrounds is just a short hop south of the border? This, of course, is the Sea of Cortez--heaven for sport fishermen, sailors, snorkelers, windsurfers,and especially Scuba divers! This semi-tropical sea boasts warm, crystal clear waters and an incredible kaleidoscope of underwater life. Armed with this knowledge, and the burning desire to showcase scuba diving in the best possible light, in 1981 Mike Huhn threw open the doors on his new venture--Desert Divers Scuba Center. Originally located on 6th street, in 1985 we moved to 1st and Prince. By 1990, we'd outgrown this location and moved once again to our current residence at 1st and River. Rather than continue opening a bigger and bigger store, we decided the Tucson community would be better served by locating our stores in their neighborhoods. So, in 1997, we opened Desert Divers East at Speedway and Kolb. In August of 2000 we celebrated the grand opening of Ocean Sports at the marina in San Carlos, Mexico.And in March of 2002 we opened Blue Water Sports, our guest activities company, at the San Carlos Plaza Hotel in San Carlos, With these locations, we truly are the ONLY scuba center in Arizona that delivers "shop to ship" service. A graduate of the University of Arizona, as well as a Tucson resident for more than 35 years, Mike is actively involved with our community. Desert Divers staff members have been visiting Tucson classrooms for years to bring the beauty of the undersea realm to our children. In addition, Desert Divers is the proud sponsor of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department's annual Summer Splash. This program, free to all, introduces the general public to the SCUBA experience in one of Tucson's community pools.We also are one of the Tucson sponsors of the YMCA "Healthy Kids Day" an annual event done nation wide by the YMCA. As we move forward into the next millenium, our mission hasn't changed. We look forward to expanding our charter fleet and guest activities services in San Carlos, Mexico, diving in new exotic destinations and providing more trip offerings to Mexico. Desert Divers charter has always been to provide the best goods and services in a professional and caring manner and always at a competitive price. Quite simply, for the largest selection of top quality equipment as well as the best scuba instruction in Southern Arizona, there is no other choice than Desert Divers.
